Sempre Più Scemo, the new single by the rapper Oxi was released for free download on www.oxionline.it on label Ci.Ma. Music. The song precedes the release of the second album by the artist from Belluno, scheduled for next autumn. The album, “Crisi d’identità” (Identity Crisis NT), features many artists including names such as Ensi, Raige and Mondo Marcio. The single “Sempre più Scemo” that anticipates the album, was produced by The Chemistri, a young team of New York City, and was recorded and mixed at StudioBeat2 (TV) by Maurizio Sera Irko, platinum for his collaboration with rapper Jay- Z. Oxi has also collaborated with Irko to make the entire album “Crisi d’identità” of which the summer single is just a taste.
The title of the song has a double meaning. Oxi goes against the traditional stereotypes of the Italian rapper who, on one hand is the typical street rapper that talks about social problems and on the other is the typical Rap-star, surrounded by women and money: Oxi doesn’t fit in either one of these two trends and, while trying to swim against the tide with sarcasm and irony, he takes himself "a little less seriously" (hence Always Dumber). Moreover, the song can be seen as a criticism of the Italian entertainment industry, the tronisti and the reality competitors who are chasing after easy money: it is therefore the system itself to be "Always Dumber".
The location where the single was shot represents an exception to the usual locations of most of the music videos of the Italian hip-hop scene. Directed by Damian Fyffe, the video is in fact set in Miami Beach: "The location" said Ci.Ma. Music "is in line with what we want to express in the song:"Sempre più scemo" is a summer single and in itself it doesn’t need or have the purpose of expressing strong concerns or thoughts."
However there are certain phrases that represent Oxi’s thoughts, expressed as if it were a joke but with a double meaning, they betray an element of truth, that not anyone might get at first listen. Ironic, lively and at times delusional "Sempre più scemo" is the song that will make you dance on the beaches and in the discos this summer 2012.
